Meaning of Chemistry

Chemistry can be defined as the science that is concerned with the composition and structure of matter and with the forces that hold the structures together.The primary objective of chemistry is the determination of nature and properties of non-living matter which surrounds us, and the preparation of new

substances. Chemistry focuses on chemical reaction s. The three main branches of chemistry are physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry. However there are other additional branches of chemistry which include biochemistry which deals with the effect of chemicals on living cells; medicinal chemistry which deals with the physiological active compounds such as aspirin, chloroquine; industrial chemistry which deal with the application of chemistry in the environment. The study of chemistry helps to acquire knowledge about matter.
